After what seems like decades in the making, Gilles Peterson finally gets Finders Keepers‘ avant-gardener Andy Votel to introduce some of his unique vinyl cultivars in to the Worldwide window box in this occasional series celebrating jazz micro-genres, tenuous-links, unknown pleasures and musical strains that have yet to be categorised. Coming direct from the counter of Votel’s own pop-up record-fair, your faithful assistant fills this compact 30 minute slot and guides you through his Niche Market putting unlikely musical relationships to the test and passing lesser celebrated global, mutant genres under a blurry magnifying glass.

In this inaugural visit to Votel’s Niche Market stall, Andy throws both himself and his customers in at the deep end celebrating some lesser spotted examples of Breton Jazz an unlikely but vibrant mini-discography of records that hear traditional Celtic instruments from the west of France combined with spiritual jazz, funk, electronic-prog and French fusion. This small but tightly knotted thread, found on disparate releases and privately owned labels, provides the perfect basis for our first Niche Market and gives you a small indication of Votel’s esoteric modus operandi for future episodes!
