For this show Gilles turns his attention to Brazil, focusing on some of the nation’s most exciting artists, featuring instrumentalists Domenico Lancellotti, Sean O’Hagan, Stephane San Juan and Nina Miranda.
Domenico Lancellotti
Renowned Brazilian drummer for the likes of Gilberto Gil and member of the now-defunct +2.
Domenico is in London for a solo show at Cafe OTO, as well as playing with Gilberto Gil. For this session he and some friends get together at the Brownswood Basement to celebrate Domenico’s new release The Good is a Big God with a live session.
Sean O’Hagan
An Irish multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and arranger who leads the avant-pop band the High Llamas, which he founded in 1992. He is also known for being one half of the duo Microdisney and for his work with the English-French band Stereolab.
Nina Miranda
A Brazilian-born English singer, songwriter, producer and visual artist. Nina Miranda was a member of English bands Smoke City, Shrift and Zeep.
Stephane San Juan
Drummer, percussionist, band leader, singer-composer, producer and educator. Stéphane San Juan comes from a rich cultural background, and has played with artists such as Andy Sheppard, Manu Chao, Mamadou et Mariam, Kassin, Moreno Veloso, Arthur Verocai and Money Mark.
