Unstoppable Voices Live from Royal Albert Hall

Worldwide FM collaborates with The Royal Albert Hall’s Unstoppable Voices season and Lyrix Oganix and present London’s vital, dynamic and original artistic perspectives, presented by Erica McKoy.

Erica explores “activism through poetry and music” by having conversations with key figures in the Unstoppable Voices along with their live performances.

The guests will include Hackney-based singer and songwriter Amahla, founder and director of Lyrix Organix which is a social enterprise that creates experimental events, rewriting the rulebook of live music and spoken word and storyteller and radio presenter from South London who’s also one of Royal Albert Hall’s young producers, Yvonne Shelling.

 

Amahla

Singer, songwriter and musician Amahla taps into an era before her time to create vintage-inspired soul music. After releasing her debut single ‘Old Soul’ which received support from the likes of BBC 1Xtra and 6Music, Amahla was awarded the PRS Lynsey De Paul Prize for outstanding female songwriters. Amahla rounded off 2018 as a recipient of the second ever MOBO Awards X Help Musicians fund for her exceptional voice.

Amahla enters 2019 releasing her follow up single ‘Dorothy’s Verses’ and playing full sets at The Jazz Cafe, Royal Albert Hall in addition to selling out her headline show at the Roundhouse marking the releases of her debut project ‘Consider This’.

Dan Tsu

Dan Tsu is the founder of Lyrix Organix, event producer and educator. Renowned for boundary-pushing events that explore the nexus of live music, poetry and hip hop, to promote social action and charitable causes. His current portfolio includes Glastonbury Festival (The Rum Shack), UK & Mexico Beatbox Championships, Brighton Festival, London 2012 and The British Council (Sudan, Ethiopia, Moscow). He has also produced major events and tours for London 2012, The Roundhouse and Kings Place. With a reputation for championing and collaborating with young talent, he has worked closely with the likes of Ed Sheeran, Akala and Kate Tempest. A passionate facilitator, cultural speaker and Event Management module leader (BA (Hons) Music Business at BIMM London), Dan regularly designs and delivers major youth education programmes for the likes of The Roundhouse, Mayor of London, and Cardboard Citizens.

Yvonne Shelling

Qualified Medical Doctor and DJ, Yvonne Shelling, has recently made the creative transition into the world of film and is writing, directing, and producing his first short film. He does this while partaking in the Young Producer programmes at both the Royal Albert Hall and the National Gallery. Yvonne is also a photographer who has had his art exhibited at the Barbican and Rich Mix.

Muneera (Poetic Pilgrimage)

Muneera Pilgrim is an international Poet, Writer and Cultural Producer. She is one half of the Muslim female duo Poetic Pilgrimage.

Muneera conducts expressive based, purpose-driven workshops, shares art, guest lectures, and finds alternative ways to educate and exchange ideas. She is a writer and contributor for BBC Radio 2 Pause for Thought, and the current artist in residents with The English Touring Theatre. She has contributed to The Guardian, Amaliah, Huffington Post, The Independent, Al Jazeera Blog and Black Ballard. Within her group she has performed around the world winning hearts one mic at a time.

Muneera holds an MA in Islamic studies  and an MA in Women’s Studies where she focused on intersectionality, spirituality, auto-ethnography and methodologies of empowerment for non-centred people.

Muneera colourfully etches a space of dialogue, accessible regardless of religious and cultural boundaries. Rooted in spirituality she uses communication and art for edification and change.
