Gathering: Erica – Mental Health and Music

08.01.18

Erica Mckoy presents a new series on The Elektrik Cave, that gives room for the bigger conversations happening in music. Every two months Erica invites guests from across the spectrum of the music industry to explore topics on a public platform.

This show celebrates the rich musical histories of jazz, hip hop, soul and electronic music, as well as discussing more personal and political aspects of music such a mental health, women’s roles and race. Erica also examines the future of jazz, hip hop, soul and electronic music to find out where the sound is going.

Help Musicians UK

Help Musicans UK have recently released the largest known study into the mental health of musicians. Conducted with the University of Westminster, they asked: can music make you sick? On The Elektrik Cave, Erica discusses this with UK rapper, Louis VI, jazz musician of the Susso collective, Huw Bennett, and And Is Phi, who toured with Hector Plimmer, Christine Brown from Help Musicans and the lead researcher behind the study Sally-Ann Gross. All of this will be done over lunch at the Worldwide FM HQ.
