This month Haseeb is joined by esteemed sound engineer, Gareth Finnegan. The pair trace Gareth’s unique approach to engineering music, meticulously sculpting the sound for both live gigs and albums, having worked on the music of Binker & Moses, Ibibio Sound Machine and Nina Miranda.

Gareth navigates the importance of how his past experiences have informed his approach to life today, from spending years squatting in London from the age of 15, to having to confront homelessness a few years later, he explores the importance of community and DIY spirit he learned throughout those formative years before travelling to the Canary Islands, Mexico and Peru in different stints.

Inspired by the Peruvian sound, Gareth started a band called Los Chinches that went on to play at the Barbican, Glastonbury and Bestival before collaborating with Capitol K to record an album, whilst Gareth was working nights on the London Underground. He soon became affiliated with Total Refreshment Centre and Church of Sound, becoming the prime sound-man; a sonic maestro, absorbing many with his technical and emotive skill-set. The pair also aim to decipher solutions to the mental health issues that come from a financially-strained creative background, looking into what has helped Gareth over the years, combining their conversation with music throughout.
