  • 13.04.21 QC Radio: King Hippo with Luke Titus, Chandeliers, Sean Owens

    QC Radio is a weekly look at the creativity flowing through the City of Chicago. We’ll hear from Chicago-based musicians, DJs, record stores, journalists, labels and parties. This season is curated by broadcaster, event producer and member of the International Anthem family, King Hippo. This is the final show of Worldwide FM: Chicago, Season One. They are ending the season in true QC Radio with a live session recorded at Dorian’s featuring Luke Titus (drums/ vocals), Brian Sanborn (guitar), Parker Grogan (guitar), Julius Tucker (keys) and Mike Cantella (bass). Tune in to hear lots of music from the Chandeliers and, naturally, they’ll have records spinning – this time by the hands of Sean Owens, who was behind the boards and the reason every episode this season sounded so good.

    In this part of his series, Osunlade is bringing tunes from his collection, as well as his own discography to the airwaves! Osunlade is a musician, record label founder and producer. His label, Yoruba Records, reflects his deeply rooted connection to Yoruba traditions: he is a priest of the Ifá religion. Having worked with artists as diverse as Roy Ayers, Salif Keita and Cesária Évora (with a brief stint writing music for Sesame Street), we’re in for an eclectic musical journey.

    DJ, producer, visual artist Brit Hansen has been an integral figure in Seattle’s electronic music community for decades. She started making music in high school alongside Pezzner as beloved duo Jacob London, with a steady string of hotly-tipped 12” tech-house releases throughout the 2000s. Brit has since shifted her focus to her evolving solo works as Hanssen, steering away from club-centric creations in favor of cinematic, dreamy, synth-heavy leftfield soundscapes. Brit is inspired to take listeners on transportive sonic journeys with her mix of weird, exciting, and unpredictable sounds.

    boxout.fm residents takeover the Worldwide FM airwaves on the second Friday of the month, showcasing sounds from India and around the world. The sixth episode of this ongoing series features Dreamstates & Zokhuma. Mumbai-based dreamstates’ approach to music selection is but a natural furtherance of his wide listening habits, habits that have been in a state of positive flux for nearly two decades. And Zokhuma (Arman Menzies) represents the end of old things, the beginning of new ones, and a forged alliance with those making alternative electronic music in previously uncharted territories. This mix captures the intersection of their individual tastes to the fullest – soundtracked with some house classics, iconic jams and often overlooked disco nuggets, rounded off with broken beat jazz and pensive IDM. Including a few emotional moments from a series of fun nights that they’ve put together for the WWFM massive. This is one for the books.
