On this week’s show, Sonrisita pays tribute to K-Maxx, a cornerstone in the modern funk scene, who was a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and member of the legendary SweaterFunk DJ crew. He died unexpectedly on the same day his new EP “Selections” came out, December 29, 2020.

K-Maxx was known as a progenitor of the modern funk scene in the Bay Area, but prior to that he had been known as a hip-hop artist. When K-Maxx transitioned to making boogie-funk, he moved away from sampling and created everything from the ground-up, laying all the instruments down himself.

K-Maxx’s positivity was infectious and radiated not just from his music, but from his presence. To say he was beloved is an understatement; fans, record heads, DJs and fellow musicians continue to mourn his death. Tune in to hear Sonrisita’s dedication to him and his legacy.
