Shirley Brown is often compared to Aretha Franklin but as an artists she has forged her own path. It may be true that she couldn’t match Aretha for fame and sheer volume of work, but if nothing else, Shirley is unmatched at the spoken word interlude. She is best known for her mid-70s Stax album, Woman To Woman (the title track being one of the world’s iconic spoken word performances), but here we showcase and celebrate her 50 years and counting in the music business.
