Open Your Eyes, You Can Fly: Flora Purim Birthday
06.03.21Tune in for a special mix celebrating the birthday of Flora Purim, one of the most iconic Brazilian singers of all time. Here you’ll find a musical timeline delving into her energy, the people, the musicians and the causes Flora Purim loved most.
As a Brazilian jazz singer who rose to prominence through collaborations with Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke on Return To Forever, her contribution to the genre remains invaluable. Born in Rio to Jewish parents, her career spans from the 1960s, with bossa nova EP Flora e M.P.M through the 1970s, which saw her release a set of records on Milestone Records and collaborate with Uruguayan band Opa, and the 1980s when Purim and Airto Moreira immersed themselves in New York’s electric jazz scene – and beyond. Her six-octave voice retains a special place in the world of Latin jazz. This mix, curated by Roberta Cutolo, explores just a small part of the singer’s extensive back catalogue.
A labour of love. Life of an artist, life of a free spirit, here in music #ForEverMore. Feliz aniversário, Flora!
