30.01.19

Tune in for Inside Sounds with Roberta Cutolo as she’s joined by Bobby Friction.

Mapping and tracing old traditional original Asian – Indian sounds and how they crossed geographical borders thanks to the power and sustainability of certain culture elements – leading to creation of new genres or sub-genres such as BhangraBollywood Music, Asian Underground, Indi Pop, Post Punk. Despite not being officially rated as mainstream, these genres have reached massive levels of popularity proving to be consistent through times in terms of influence so demonstrating how these original culture threads have been transcribed, transferred and so evolved into what is nowadays expression of a possible new and contemporary proudly Asian Sound.

They are also joined by Ms. Mohammed in the studio for a live performance.

He’s also an accomplished & award winning broadcaster and documentary maker for radio and TV specialising in Music, Politics and Society.

Ms. Mohammed

Genre-bending Island rock artist who’s altering your approach to the genres she focuses on. Dive in and you’ll discover dhol drums and rapso on the seething protest groove of title track Alibi; soca beats and jab jab riddim on the intoxicating, jouvert morning-inspired rush of Written In Time; a bluesy, snare-heavy samba paean to the divine feminine on Pandora; and a starry dub break-down on the whirling, reverb-fired Never Again.

Ms. Mohammed is currently working on a new EP inspired by her debut in India, playing at a major festival in Bangalore – where she found herself on the cover of major newspapers. The EP draws from the many places she has lived: Trinidad, NYC, and London as well her ancestral home India, and her many musical influences. Journeying though this creative process of delving into her many influences and her life, back in the studio with her new EP; she found something magical happen… a flow of new original material has started to emerge…
