Head Sounds with Tostoni
21.02.21In his now bi-monthly Head Sounds session, Tostoni explores the rich tropical sounds of Venezuela during the 60’s and 70’s, a country thriving with big orchestras and bands experimenting new forms and arrangements inspired in the latin sounds coming from New York, Puerto Rico and Cuba but spiced up with the “Caraqueño” slang and madness.
On this episode, his selection includes experimental band LapaMariposa with their heavy blend of afro jazz rock from 1995, followed by monster tracks by Gerry Weil, Virgilo Araque and Virgilo Armas. Esperanto, the band led by Jorge Aguilar brings joy with Alegría from 1980 and their amazing take on trippy disco. Freddy Leon and Aldemaro Romero close bossa nova influences are also here.
The mix is wrapped up with Insólito UniVerso’s beautiful Pájaro, Asimetría covering Zappa and ends with the laid-back east coast sounds from Miguel Tur and Sexto Sentido.
