The Mancunian trio blending hard-hitting jazz and club-ready electronica GoGo Penguin have had a remarkably successful four years, including a Mercury Prize nomination, a three-album deal with legendary jazz label Blue Note, and recording their third studio album A Humdrum Star. The album takes inspiration from native turf and far-flung influences; the river Wharfe in Yorkshire to Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. It is an album of opposing forces; acoustic to electronic, chilled chords to edgy funk, restless to reflective, but never straying from the idiosyncratic instrumentation and poetic phrasing for which GoGo Penguin are acclaimed.
