QC Radio: King Hippo with Ayana Contreras and Junius Paul

QC Radio is a weekly look at the creativity flowing through the City of Chicago. We’ll hear from Chicago-based musicians, DJs, record stores, journalists, labels and parties. This season is curated by broadcaster, event producer and member of the International Anthem family, King Hippo.

QC Radio returns monthly beginning Tuesday, May 25th. Before that, we offer you ‘QC Radio Season One: Bonus Beats, Number 2’ featuring Ayana Contreras, Junius Paul and King Hippo.

Ayana Contreras is a record collector, DJ, radio host/producer at Chicago Public Media, a founder/blogger at darkjive.com, and a columnist and reviewer at DownBeat Magazine. Her first book, ‘Energy Never Dies: Afro-Optimism and Creativity in Chicago’, will be released in November by University of Illinois Press.

Junius Paul is a record collector, DJ, and bassist. He plays bass for Art Ensemble of Chicago and Makaya McCraven. Junius released an album on Chicago record label International Anthem titled ISM in November of 2019.
