Each week at Worldwide FM we select an album of the week and play a track every morning on Morning Mari*. This week, we’re concentrating on the debut release from Uniting of Opposites, the new musical venture from Tom Liken, Clem Alford and Ben Hazleton.
“Ancient Lights” is named after the English property law that gives homeowners the right to natural light. Musically it reflects the distinct musical backgrounds of Hazleton, Liken and Alford by uniting jazz, Indian classical music and electronic production.
With sitar, clarinet, tabla, and double bass weaving in and out, the album crosses continents to draw its inspiration. The result is eight mysterious, mesmerizing and beautifully crafted tracks, not to be missed.
Ancient Lights is out on Brighton based label, Tru Thoughts. Earlier this year the label hosted their own Brownswood Basement session, presented by label founder Robert Luis. Check out the show here.
